Warner Confirms He Participation in 2nd Leg of IPL 2021

David Warner will participate in the second leg of the IPL. The Australian opener confirmed in an Instagram post that he would be back with Sunrisers Hyderabad when the IPL resumed in September in the UAE. The post which carried a picture of Warner in a Sunrisers Hyderabad jacket carried the caption, “I’ll be back.” Most prominent cricketers from Bangladesh, West Indies, England and New Zealand have confirmed over the past few weeks that they would be available for the lucrative T20 league. The second leg of the IPL will begin when Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings clash on 19 September.

Dropped from Playing XI for the First Time in IPL 2021

p>Since he joined Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014, David Warner has been a constant figure in the playing 11 of the franchise. In March 2021, SRH dropped Warner from the playing 11 for the first time ever after a rare inconsistency with the bat in the first half of the IPL 2021. David Warner was removed from the captaincy halfway through the first leg when he was replaced by Kane Williamson.  The decision to relieve Warner of the captaincy came as a shock to the IPL and Hyderabad fans alike.

Performance in First Leg Mediocre by Warner’s Standards

n the first half of the IPL 2021, the Australia opening batsman made 193 runs in six innings at 32.16 with two fifties. Only one other player from SRH got more runs in the first leg of the league. However, the returns are considered low by the high standards that Warner has set for himself. Warner’s record in the IPL and his contribution to his franchise speak for themselves. In six previous seasons, he has won the Orange Cap (awarded to the highest run maker in a season) on three occasions, in 2015, 2017 and 2019. In 2016, he was second only to Virat Kohli in the number of runs made.

Sunrisers Must Win Remaining Games to Stay in Contention for Playoffs

le, Sunrisers Hyderabad registered just one win in seven games during the first leg of the tournament. Warner will be anxious to make amends with some match-winning innings and get his franchise back to winning ways. Winning all of their remaining games would brighten SRH’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs. They would need to win at least seven games to stay in contention, though their passage to the second stage of the competition would then depend on other teams’ performances.
