Match Predictions
p>South Africa and West Indies faced off against each other in the first T20I of the series at St George’s, Granada, on 26 June. In that game, South Africa batted first and got off to a quick start with a 33-run opening stand before Reeza Hendricks caught out in the fourth over. After Quinton de Kock was dismissed in the seventh over, Bavuma and Van der Dussen pushed the score along to 95.3 in the 12th over before Bavuma lost his wicket. Building on that platform, South Africa would have expected to score much more than their eventual score of 160 for six. For South Africa, Van der Dussen made a top score with an unbeaten 56 from 38 balls, while De Kock made 37 from 24 and Bavuma played a cameo of 22 from 20 balls. For West Indies, Fabian Allen and Dwayne Bravo took two wickets each, while Jason Holder and Andre Russell took one each.West Indies began their reply brilliantly with an 85-run stand for the first wicket in seven overs before Andre Fletcher got out. Evin Lewis carried on the good work in the company of Chris Gayle; when Lewis got out in the 12th over West Indies were 124 for 2. They needed only three more overs to wipe off the remaining runs required, without further loss of wickets. Lewis scored 71 from 35 balls, while Chris Gayle made 32 from 24, Andre Fletcher 30 from 19 and Russell 23 from 12. For South Africa, Shamsi was the only successful bowler, taking one for 27.
With this result, West Indies appear to have got their T20I combination right, a step in the right direction towards defending their T20I world cup title later this year.
