Match Predictions and Team Previews
Somerset will be up against Hampshire in a South Group encounter at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton. It is the seventh game of this season for both sides.
Somerset didn’t have a great start to this tournament. They lost their first two games as they couldn’t defend scores of 185 and 187 against Essex and Surrey respectively. However, they have bounced back strongly since then. Those two losses have been the only ones for Somerset so far in this competition. In the last four games, Somerset have won two and two games have been washed out. They defended 204 against Kent while they hunted down 147 with ease against Surrey in the return fixture.
On the other hand, Hampshire have won just one game so far. They have lost three games and their last two games have been washed out. With just four points from six games, Hampshire are reeling at the second-last position on the South Group points table. They started with a 38-run loss against Kent before beat Essex by 13 runs while defending 155. Sussex and Middlesex beat them in the next two games. Hampshire’s batting has been the problem and barring the game against Middlesex where they scored 215, they haven’t got in excess of 160 in each of the other three games. Mason Crane has been the only bowler who has been consistent while Kyle Abbott’s inclusion will give them a boost.
The return of the Test players (Craig Overton and Jack Leach) has bolstered the bowling. Hampshire haven’t been making too many changes and are expected to continue the same way.
Given their head-to-head record (12-6) against Hampshire and decent form in the recent past, Somerset will start as favourites.
