Injury Sustained during England ODI
Iyer sustained a shoulder injury while fielding in the first ODI of a series on England’s tour of India in March 2021. Diving to the left to try to stop a shot by Jonny Bairstow, Iyer hurt his shoulder and was attended to on the field by the team physio after the middle-order batsman was seen clutching his shoulder in pain. The injury ruled Iyer out of further participation in the England series as well as in the IPL.
Cleared to Play After Rehabilitationp>After undergoing shoulder surgery in the UK in April, Iyer was advised to take three months’ rest before returning to competitive cricket. Accordingly, the BCCI kept Iyer out of the team that toured Sri Lanka last month. After recovering his fitness and being cleared to play cricket by the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Iyer has joined his teammates in the UAE to prepare for the second leg of the IPL. The NCA declared Iyer fit to play in the second leg of the IPL after an intense rehabilitation programme was completed by the 26-year-old cricketer. Iyer underwent the programme at the Mumbai Cricket Association ground located in the suburban Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai city. Media Release by BCCIp>According to a media release by a senior BCCI official,“Yes, NCA has issued a fit certificate to Shreyas. He stayed in Bengaluru at the NCA for a week and his final assessment happened a few days back. Based on all medical and physical parameters, he is now ready to play matches. This couldn’t have happened at a better time with India’s T20 World Cup campaign in two months’ time.”
