In the second game of the series on 18 July at Leeds, England batted first. They lost early wickets of Roy and Malan before recovering through a 57-run stand for the third wicket between Buttler and Moeen Ali. After Ali departed with the score reading 85/3, Livingstone joined Buttler in a 52-run stand for the 4th wicket. At 137/4 in the 14th over, England appeared set to score more than 200. But some quick wickets including an unfortunate run out of Livingstone put the brakes on the innings and England were eventually bowled out for 200, with one ball left in the innings. Buttler top scored for England with a fluent half-century, while Shaheen Afridi took 1/28 to emerge the most economical bowler for Pakistan on a batsman friendly wicket. Hasnain took 3/51, while Imad Wasim, Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan shared the remaining wickets.
When Pakistan batted, they began well with a 50-run opening stand before Babar Azam was out in the 6th over. Some top order batsmen got off to starts that they failed to capitalize. Barring cameos from Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim, the rest of the lower order players failed to fire, and Pakistan were restricted to 155/9 in their allotted overs. Saqib Mahmood was England’s best bowler on the night with figures of 3/33. Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali took two wickets each, while Tom Curran and Matt Parkinson grabbed one each.
Head-to-Headp>England and Pakistan have won two matches each of the last five T20I games between the sides, with one match ended without result.
