Rohit Sharma was born on 30 April 1987 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Rohit Sharma made his ODI debut against Ireland on 23 June 2007. The right-hander played in the middle order and could not stand out in a star-studded Indian side. Sharma’s first international century came on 28 May 2010 against Zimbabwe. The Mumbaikar scored 114 runs at a strike rate of 95.79. He scored his 2nd century in the very next match and finally started to justify the much-talked-about talent. He had to wait three years for his next century. However, after being promoted to the opening slot, centuries for Rohit Sharma became a much more frequent achievement.
Rohit Sharma mesmerised the crowd present at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore when he scored a scintillating 209 against the Aussies. T20 T20 Internationals
first made a name for himself in the ODI format. He was part of the Indian squad that travelled without any regular heavyweights to participate in the T20 World Cup. No one placed any expectations on the Indian side as the team consisted of several players with no experience in international cricket. Rohit Sharma was one such player.
Sharma made his debut against England on 19 September 2007. His debut was overshadowed by Yuvraj Singh who slammed six sixes in the game against Broad. However, an injury to Yuvraj made the Indian chances bleak in the next game played against South Africa. have perhaps been the biggest stain on his otherwise glorious international career. The Indian star had to wait until 2013 to get his Test debut. He played a mighty innings of 177 against the West Indies in his debut match. However, things haven’t been easy for him in red-ball cricket.
Sharma who has so far played 32 Test matches in his career has featured in the middle order for most of his career. He could manage only three centuries while batting in the middle order and was considered a failure.
However, circumstances forced the Indian management to push him to the opening slot in Test matches as well. Sharma played his first Test match as an opener on 2 October 2019. He has scored three Test centuries since then and has given a signal of a much brighter future in Test games as well.
