ICC ODI Rankings: Mithali Raj Dethroned from Top Spot
The ICC ODI rankings have been updated following the conclusion of the recent tour to New Zealand. Indian captain Mithali Raj has been dethroned as the top-ranked woman cricketer in ODIs, and Jhulan Goswami now sits at the number two position in bowlers ranking with a total of 727 points. Mithali has been shifted to the third position with 738 points in the latest ICC ODI rankings. There are only two Indians in the ICC batting points table. Explosive opener Smriti Mandhana remains sixth with 710 points.
However, it is not all blow for Indian cricket as veteran bowler Jhulan Goswami has climbed to the second spot in the ODI bowlers ranking. She’s the only Indian bowler to be on the list. When it comes to all-rounders, two Indians have made it to the list. With 299 points, Deepti Sharma is ranked fifth, and with 251 points, Jhulan Goswami is ranked tenth in the ICC points table.
Raj had been at the top of the ICC ODI rankings eight times since 2005 February, but her form seemed to have dipped this year with a string of low scores against New Zealand and Australia in February and March respectively. In her 22-year-long career, Mithali has achieved this feat multiple times. However, the 39-year-old Indian captain seems to have been struggling with her batting. Nevertheless, as they say, form is temporary, and class is permanent. There will be no surprise if she clinches back her ODI no.1 spot in the coming years.
