CSK sign Dominic Drakes as Sam Curran’s replacement
Son of former West Indies fast bowler Vasbert Drakes, 23-year-old Dominic is a capable all-rounder like the player he’s about to step in for.
Dominic Drakes career statistics
Drakes garnered widespread praise when he scored an unbeaten 48 off just 24 in the final of this year’s CPL. With a target of 160, Drakes’ side had fallen behind on run rate and looked to be losing before his innings won them their first CPL crown and secured the Player of the Match award for the youngster.
Sam Curran has picked up a lower back injury that will see him missing not only the playoffs of the IPL but also the Men’s T20 World Cup which follows shortly afterwards. Curran was having a relatively uneventful year with the Chennai outfit performance-wise, with only 56 runs scored from the four times he had to come out to bat and 9 wickets at 36.44 with an economy rate of 9.93 with the ball.
